FESTIVAL VENUE
We are delighted to return to the hugely atmospheric headquarters of the RGS – one of London's hidden gems.
The home of exploration
For the past two centuries this historic 'learned society' has sent explorers and adventurers all over the world: from Mungo Park to Captain Scott, David Livingstone to Ernest Shackleton, the RGS has been the home of British exploration.
Housed in an elegant listed mansion next to Hyde Park, the building makes a perfect setting, with its grand salons and Edwardian interiors. It is normally open only to Fellows.
Historic display
As well as having this remarkable house to ourselves for the weekend, we have exclusive access to a special display of fascinating items from the RGS's historical collection, which will be on view especially for the festival. In the Library a curator will show and give talks on objects from the collection, including personal and professional objects from the famous explorers of yesteryear.
State of the art
Today the RGS is a world centre of geographical research and education, a vital role in a time of global issues. Its conference facilities and lecture theatre are state-of-the-art. We shall be making the most of them.
